Autumn in South Africa: The sun is starting to set a little earlier, and the gentle pitter-patter of the first winter rains has arrived in the Western Cape, soaking the earth with much-needed moisture after the long, hot summer. A walk through the flower fields reveals the subtle shift in seasons: a crispness in the air, a softening of the light, and the quiet anticipation of what’s to come.
In the waxflower fields, harvest has already begun for some early varieties, while others are still glowing in shades of lime green – an unmistakable sign that bloom season is just around the corner. At the same time, we’re enjoying the vibrant colours of Cottonbush, as well as standout proteas:

And with the season of Protea cynaroides – South Africa’s iconic national flower – also around the corner, the fields are set to burst into even more breathtaking colour.

When it comes to timeless colour, you can never go wrong with shades of pink. Chamelaucium Solar is a must-have this season, whether used as a delicate filler or as a feature bloom in its own right. These tiny petals may be small, but they carry a quiet beauty that speaks volumes in any bouquet.
