The Start of Cynaroides Season
A drive up the mountain is a journey into wonder – hillsides awash in the blush and boldness of Protea Cynaroides, South Africa’s beloved national flower. These magnificent blooms stand proudly on thick stems, their grand flower heads unfurling like crowns crafted by nature’s finest hand. Each Cynaroides dazzles with layers of fleshy, silky bracts in shades of rose, coral and ivory, encircling a heart of intricate, silvery textures.
It’s no wonder this protea is a symbol woven into the spirit of South Africa – a story of resilience, beauty, and strength. Known as the King Protea, it embodies majesty, with flower heads so large they seem to demand a throne, whether in nature’s fields or lovingly placed in a vase to reign over a home. Their presence is commanding yet tender, a living testament to South Africa’s vibrant and enduring soul.

Protea Brenda: A Bloom of Bold Grace
Alongside the grandeur of the Cynaroides, another beauty stirs excitement – Protea Brenda. With her richly hued pink petals and smooth, emerald-green leaves, Brenda carries herself with an understated elegance. Her compact form and velvety texture lend a touch of wild romance to bouquets, making her a delightful addition to any celebration of the season.

Waxflower Ochana Harvest
As the days grow shorter and the air gains a crispness, another wonder quietly awakens – the Waxflower Ochana. Slowly, the fields begin to hum with life, tiny blooms opening under the warm gaze of the sun. The scent of fresh earth and sweet nectar fills the air, while bees dance joyfully from blossom to blossom. Our teams are hard at work, hand-harvesting these delicate flowers with great care and pride, ensuring that every stem carries the magic of early autumn to your doorstep.

For this year’s Mother’s Day, we did a special photoshoot with Sonica from our accounting team and her one-year-old son, Thean, surrounded by freshly picked Cynaroides in full bloom.
Special Days Coming Up
Workers’ Day — Thursday, 1 May
On 1 May, South Africa pauses to celebrate the hands and hearts that make the magic of our farms possible. Workers’ Day is a tribute to the people of the earth – those whose hands till the soil, nurture the fields, and harvest the blooms with passion and patience. Without them, the dream of sharing our flowers with the world would not be possible. Please remember to place your flower orders in advance, as our dedicated teams will be taking a well-deserved break to honour this day.
